The MR CHOW Concept

The first MR CHOW opened in London on Valentine’s Day 1968 with top chefs serving authentic Beijing cuisine and with evolving creative original recipes over time. MR CHOW has since expanded to the USA opening the Beverly Hills location in 1974, then New York where the first location opened in 1978 on 57th Street and the second location in New York TriBeCa in 2006. Opening at the W Hotel in South Beach, Miami in the summer of 2009 and in 2010 at the Harmon Hotel in Las Vegas located in the City Center.

China has a history of over 5,000 years and its cuisine has evolved over time. Its culinary techniques, preparations and serving of food have been developed to the highest levels. Cooking has occupied an important position in Chinese culture throughout history and is considered an Art and a Science.

Beijing cuisine has been the most influential in China, since Beijing has been the capital for over three dynasties. “The Emperors Kitchen” was a term referring to the cooking places inside of the Forbidden City, where thousands of chefs from the different parts of China showed their best skills to please the Imperials and Aristocrats.

For the past 41 years, MR CHOW has been serving this high cuisine as a foundation along with our original recipes, using the best and freshest ingredients. We focus on aroma where fragrances blend to create appetite, presentations, variety of textures, and taste that varies from mild to spicy, creating a harmonious and memorable meal. Using the skills of steaming to roasting, we continuously work to create the healthiest Chinese menu.

At MR CHOW all dishes have equal and important place on the menu. It is designed for you to have an individual dining experience according to your personal preferences. Our well trained Chefs and Captains will assist you to have a balanced meal for the whole table. To experience the best of the different tastes, textures, presentation and good value, most of our clients enjoy the varieties of our flexible prix-fixe menus.

Dining at MR CHOW is not just a culinary experience, as you will also be entertained for a good part of your evening. Our service staff will approach you with our exclusive Champagne trolley at the beginning and with a dessert selection at the end of your meal. Every night since the opening, it has been our tradition to demonstrate the original Beijing style of hand pulled noodle making by our skilled pasta chefs. The American Academy of Hospitality Sciences recently awarded MR CHOW the 5 Star Diamond Award for excellence, service, and cuisine.

We enjoy and appreciate the love and support from the world and continue to work for your excellent dining experience.

Huffington Post Miami – Philippe Chow Restaurants Found Guilty Of False Advertising

Philippe Chow Restaurants Found Guilty Of False Advertising And Unfair Competition With Mr. Chow Restaurants

The courtroom battle of the culinary Chows is finally over. The U.S. District Court in Miami found Philippe Chow Restaurants and CEO Stratis Morfogen guilty of false advertising and unfair competition by deceptive conduct.

However, both Chows are claiming victory. Anthony Accetta, lawyer for Philippe Chow, notes that Michael Chow of Mr. Chow sued for over 16 counts, including trademark infringement, unfair and deceptive trade practices, and misappropriation of trade secrets, but only won one of them.

The original Chow told L.A. Times, “Philippe has aggressively and shamelessly worked to confuse people into thinking our restaurants are connected, even to the point of referring to himself as ‘Mr. Chow.’”

Philippe’s legal name was Chak Yam Chau. When the first Philippe Chow Restaurant opened, he changed his name to Philippe Chow Chau.

Mr. Chow has locations in London, Beverly Hills, New York, Las Vegas and Miami Beach.

In 2008 when Philippe Chow opened a location in Miami Beach’s Gansevoort Hotel, less than half a mile from Mr. Chow’s at the W Hotel, the original Chow decided to file a lawsuit, according the Miami Herald.

Philippe Chow has since moved to another location on Ocean Drive.

The U.S. District Court considered paid online “sponsor links” as evidence of false advertising, because they falsely showed Mr. Chow’s New York restaurant as located at the actual address of the Philippe Chow Restaurant.

The links also stated that Philippe Chau was the “architect of Mr. Chow’s menu,” even though he was never head chef, executive chef or first or second wok at Mr. Chow’s.

The court also found false advertising proof in that Morfogen directed Philippe Chow employees to submit positive reviews of their restaurant online without disclosing their employment.

Mr. Chow will receive $1 million in damages as outlined by the jury’s decision.

Mr. Chow’s attorney Bertram Fields commented, “We view this judgment as a complete victory and are satisfied that the jury sent a clear message to Morfogen and Philippe Chow Restaurants about their false advertising and misconduct. This case was not about the money, and the jury understood that despite all that he has endured, Michael Chow has and will continue to be highly successful.

Meanwhile co-counsel for Philippe Chow Vincent Ancona notes, “They tried to take Philippe Chow’s name, they tried to take his food, they tried to take his livelihood. You know what they got? Nothing. We’ll see Michael Chow in Zagat next year – may the best chef win.”

Mr. Chow’s Symphony – The Eccentric Restaurateur Reveals His Search for Perfection

Mr. Chow’s Symphonyfrom Alison Chernick on Nowness.com.

Famed for his signature keyhole spectacles, schoolboy haircut and staccato manner, food world legend Mr. Chow invites filmmaker Alison Chernick into his kitchen. Ever since being introduced to a swinging 60s London, Mr. Chow’s iconic restaurants in New York and Beverly Hills have remained A-list hotspots, and his empire extends to Miami, Las Vegas and London. For decades he has served high-end Chinese cuisine via Italian waiters, accompanied by French wine and without a chopstick in sight to an endless list of stars—from Marlene Dietrich and Frank Sinatra, through Mick Jagger and Jackie O, to George Clooney and Gwyneth Paltrow. Celebrity guests dine surrounded by the proprietor’s collection of world-class contemporary art, including Warhols, Basquiats, Hockneys and Mapplethorpes. Son to one of China’s biggest stars, Zhou Xinfang, an actor in the Peking Opera, Mr. Chow’s sartorial and artistic precision struggle to contain the powerhouse of charisma and bravado that has placed him center stage among the world’s elite. “I found myself in boot camp, then realized this is a day in the life of Camp Chow,” says Chernick. “Obsessive perfectionism and underlying charm feed the phenomenon of Mr. Chow.” To recreate the star-dusted experience chez Chow, we offer a recipe right off the menu.

Mr. Chow’s Beijing Chicken

•Fresh chicken breast (cut into cubes)
•Bean sauce
•2 tsp sugar
•8 pieces glazed roasted walnuts (whole)
•2 tbsp hot chicken stock
•1 egg
•2 tbsp vegetable oil
•2 tbsp water
•½ tsp salt
•1 tsp sesame seed oil
•4 cups vegetable oil

To marinate chicken

1.Mix cubed chicken with egg whites, two teaspoons of vegetable oil, salt and water to marinate the chicken.

To cook

1.Deep fry the marinated chicken 70% (make sure chicken doesn’t stick together). Drain the oil from chicken and put it aside.
2.Heat the wok with one teaspoon of vegetable oil until medium hot and add bean sauce, sugar, chicken stock and sesame seed oil. Sauté until the sauce thickens.
3.Add Chicken and sauté quickly under a high heat. Add Sesame seed oil and toss in walnuts to finish.
